+que_toys: yupyland

Meni Tzima was born and grew in Larissa, a small but glorious town in Greece, in 1977.
At the age of 18, she moved alone and scared in the big city to study graphic design at TEI of Athens, and soon after her graduation she decided to become a full time illustrator.
Over the past few years she has had the opportunity to do work for a lot of exciting projects on a corporate level, as well as on a personal one.
Since 2005, Yupyland.com is her virtual world of cute monsters and strange characters but this is only a part of the Dinnerr design studio in Athens, where she and her best friend/partner work on a broad range of design projects as well.
Her plan for the future is to simply keep drawing and see what happens!

H: Who and what inspires you? why?
A walk out in the city, a random conversation, a movie, music, a good piece of art, a bad one, my everyday life are few things that inspire me. All of this material breaks and melts when I sleep and the essence comes out as a good or a bad idea for a new artwork.

How would you define your style?
I’d say cute and funny, ironic and detailed.

What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment, I’m working on various designs for a new line of apparel. I’ve also recently joined a team of some very nice and talented artists, working on some projects with them and prepare for the launch of our website, more info very soon! Last but not least, me and my partner at Dinnerr, work on various design projects and preparing to launch our website. It’s a busy and happy season :)

Meni Tzima ha nacido y crecido en Larissa, un pequeña e increíble ciudad griega. A los 18 años se fue a Atenas a estudiar Diseño Gráfico en la escuela TEI de dicha ciudad. Cuando finalizó sus estudios decidió convertirse en ilustradora a tiempo completo. En los últimos años ha tenido la posibilidad de desarrollar muchos trabajos interesantes a nivel de empresa y personales.
Desde 2005, Yupyland es su mundo virtual compuesto de monstruos molones y extraños personajes; es también el 50% del estudio Dinnerr en Atenas donde junto con su mejor amiga trabajan en un amplio abanico de proyectos.

H: ¿Quién y qué te inspira? ¿Por qué?
Un paseo por la ciudad, una conversación, una película, una canción, una buena pieza de arte, una mala… mi vida diaria tiene diferentes cosas que me inspiran. Todo este material estalla cuando duermo y la esencia se convierte en un buena o mala idea para un nuevo trabajo.

¿Cómo definirías tu estilo?
Diría que bonito y divertido; también irónico y detallado.

¿En qué estás trabajando ahora mismo?
Ahora mismo estoy trabajando en varios diseños para una nueva línea de complementos de ropa. También me he unido últimamente a colectivo de buenos y talentosos artistas, trabajando en diferentes proyectos y preparando nuestra nueva web. Además junto con mi socia en Dinnerr trabajamos en varios proyectos de diseño y también estamos a punto de lanzar nuestra web. Es una época ocupada y feliz.
