Mr. Clement was born in 1980 in a poor Hong-Kong suburb. When he was a child he used to play with a little rabbit called Lapin, his only childhood friend. Also, he wanted to be an astronaut and enjoyed drawing. Put all those things together – Lapin, astronauts, draws– and you have Mr. Clement´s lead character, Astrolapin, also one of the best vinyl toys ever made. > How long have you been illustrating, how´d you get into it?
i think i am doing "drawing", i started to do it when i was a child, might be 6 or 7 years old. i can say.... because it is cheap, just pen and paper....haha... if my mother could pay, i think i didn't mind to play pianoor golf.

> Who and what inspires you? why?
......i really can't tell you exactly.....everything and everyone. i like to listening, watching and smelling everywhere, it is very good to get idea, but i never do "smelling" in underground.

> Pixel Or Pencil? Why?
both i like..... i use pencil because i like this smell, i use computer
because i just got a new one(without applecare).

> What do you feel are the benefits and downfalls (if any) of working for yourself?
......i don't know.... money? no way, i am a poor artist. girls? no way, they like my work but don't like me.

> What were your favourite cartoons when you were kid?
batman!!! he is the only one i still remember the name.

> If you had one wish, what would it be?
i wish i can go back to the past, and tell my grandmother(in my mother's side) i love her before she die.

> What´s behind that sweet appearance of Lapin´s?
actually, i don't think lapin is sweet, lovely ... i think it/he /she is quite cold even the look and the appearance. lapin...... sometimes, lapin is me.sometimes, lapin is someone i love or i hate. sometime, lapin is nobody or everyone.

> In what way "one hundred years of solitude" by Gabriel García Marquez inspired Lapin´s latest comic book?
who said that?? i was't insprired by "one hundred years of solitude", but i love it, read it few time in last summer.

> Lapin´s been seen in many different places around the world: Paris, London, Hong-Kong... where will he go next? will he ever settle down?
may be japan because i met a beatify Japanese girl recently..ohayo..natto..oishi...suci..wagamama.. hokkaido... hokkaido...hokkaido!! settle down?? ....mmm... maybe..no no no...later.

> With the saturation of designer toys in the last few years what would you say sets you apart?
yes, many people asked me this question... i am sorry, i am doing comic, but i don't read. i am doing toys but i don't buy even i don't really know what's happening in the toys field. it is good!! i think i can make something unique.

> Any plans for other projects that you`d like to share?
.... i am thinking if i should stop doing art work because i am too poor. May be i have to find a job...may be in china town... poor or can you offer me a job??

Mr Clement nació en 1980, en un barrio pobre de Hong-Kong. Cuando era un niño solía jugar con un pequeño conejo al que llamaba Lapin. Este era su único amigo de la infancia. También quería ser astronauta y le encantaba dibujar. Si mezclamos todos esto – Lapin, los astronautas y los dibujos – tenemos el personaje que el autor ha creado, Astrolapin, uno de los mejores vinilos que se han hecho. > ¿Cómo comenzaste a ser ilustrador y cuanto tiempo llevas haciéndolo?
Creo que lo que yo realmente hago es dibujar. Yo empecé cuando era un niño de unos seis o siete años de edad, porque… es barato, sólo necesitas papel y un lápiz…ah… Probablemente, si a mi madre se lo hubiera podido permitir supongo que no me hubiera importado aprender a tocar el piano o jugar al golf.

> ¿Quién y qué te inspira? ¿Por qué?
Realmente no se que decir… todas las cosas y la gente. Me gusta escuchar, observar y oler todo, es una buena manera de conseguir una idea salvo en el metro, nunca huelo en el metro!

> ¿Píxel o Lápiz? ¿Por qué?
Me gustan ambos… Yo, uso el lápiz porque me gusta como huele y utilizo un ordenador porque me he comprado uno nuevo

> ¿Cuáles son para ti los pros y los contras de trabajar para ti mismo?
No le sé… dinero? Que va, soy un artista sin pelas. Por la chicas? Tampoco. A ellas les gusta mi trabajo, yo no tanto.

> ¿Cuáles eran los dibujos animados que más te gustaban cuando eras un niño?
Batman ¡!!! Es del único del que recuerdo el nombre.

> Si tuvieras que pedir un deseo, ¿cuál sería?
Desearía volver al pasado para poder decirle a mi abuela que la quería antes de que ella muriese.

> ¿Qué se esconde tras esa apariencia dulce de Lapin?
Realmente, no creo que Lapin sea un personaje dulce… Pienso que él/ella tiene incluso una apariencia fría. En ocasiones, Lapin es como yo. En otras ocasiones es como alguien al que quiero/odio. O es como todo el mundo o como nadie.

> ¿ De qué manera ha influenciado el libro ‘Cien años de soledad’ de García Márquez en tu último cómic?
¿Dónde lo habéis leído? No me ha inspirado el libro de García Márquez, pero me encanta. Lo he leído el verano pasado.

> Hemos visto a Lapin en diferentes lugares del mundo: Paris, Londres, Hong-Kong… ¿Cuál será el próximo destino? ¿Se asentará algún día?
Puede que Japón, ya que he conocido a un chica japonesa muy mona.

¿Asentarse? …mm… quizás…no no no … en el futuro.

> Con la saturación actual del mercado de los art toys, ¿qué tiene de diferente el tuyo, Lapin?
Mucha gente me lo pregunta… Lo siento, pero yo dibujo cómic pero no leo otros. Fabrico toys pero no estoy al día de lo que ocurre en el mundo de los art toys. Pienso que eso es algo bueno y me permite hacer algo diferente.

> ¿Algo qué quieras contar a Le Toy?
Creo, que no voy a poder seguir haciendo arte. No tengo mucho dinero y me tendré que buscar un curro… quizás en chinatown …pobrecito! ¿Alguno de vosotros me puede ofrecer un trabajo?
